Importance of Stretching

Without re-inventing the wheel, I thought I would share something that many of us do not spend enough time doing…STRETCHING!Evolution of Stretching

No, it wont burn a bunch of calories, or build a bunch of muscle directly.  It doesn’t taste good – or bad for that matter.  However, because you will feel good, reduce your risk of injury, and help your body recover it will help you to continue to burn those calories, build that muscle, and help you to keep feeling good by helping you stick to your fitness routine or training schedule.  That should be all the reason you need to spend that few minutes a day working on improving your flexibility.

Here are the main points to know about Stretching.

  1. It is one of the best ways to keep your muscles healthy.
  2. Performing stretches regularly will strengthen your muscles and increase your flexibility.
  3. The more flexible you are, the better it is for your joints.
  4. Keeping muscles and joints in top condition helps with your day-to-day range of motion and can help guard against injury.

Bottom line is if you are not stretching you should be.  If you are doing a little bit, you probably should be doing more.  It could be what’s missing and be the difference of you feeling so/so to feeling good or even feeling great!  When you perform stretches start with gentle stretches and slowly increase the intensity.  Stretching should never hurt and in most cases should feel good.  Don’t overdo your stretches and remember to relax and focus on the muscle or muscles you are stretching.
